Print Instruction Sheet Valance Making

There are 3 types of tracks for attaching fabric only Valances to your Easy Track curtain tracks:

  • Tape edge(T/E) track: Using a hook self pleating valance tape the valance is attached to the edge of the track with metal or nylon curtain hooks. On the edge of the track is a tape with pockets in it and the hooks simply slide into the pockets.
  • Velcro edge(V/E) track: Using a velcro self pleating valance tape, the valance is attached to the edge of the track by the velcro.
  • Velcrop top (V/T/E) track: This is for straight valances the valance attaches right on the top edge and simply hangs down.

The instructions below are basic instructions for valance making, also read curtain making instructions for furthur information and diagrams.

Note: If lining valance make sure the lining is the same width , but a liitle shorter drop so it doesn't stick out under the valance, sew together with tape.

For self-pleating valance tapes continous:

  • Calculate the width: Take the track length and add the width of the track ends and muliply by the fullness(2.5 times), then add 12cm for side hems.
  • Calculate the raw drop measurement: Take the measurement desired for finished drop, add fabric for bottom hem should be double the hem width, then add fabric to fold under tape on top of valance - should be same width as tape, but you can get away with 50mm if necessary.
  • Cut fabric to correct raw drop measurement + 5cm extra allowance.
  • Make side and bottom hems.
  • Iron and make final cut on top.
  • Fold fabric over on top and sew tape on - we normally have a heading on the top of around 2cm.
  • Tape should be sewn in the following order: 1 st row od stitches should be on top, second row sewn on bottom and with wider tapes further 1 or 2 rows in middle.
  • Tie one side and pull valance up, tie other side.
  • Attach hooks into pockets if by hooks and hang up.

For straight valances:

  • Calculate the width: Take the track length and add the width of the track ends then add 12cm for side hems.
  • Calculate the raw drop measurement. Sew drop together if by the drop.
  • If 10cm or less finished drop, fabric can be simply folded over and attached to track on top or edge with velcro. If over 10cm fabric should be ironed onto stiffning tape with special glue that sticks when iron runs over it.
  • Sew velcro tape on and hang up.

Straight valances can be difficult to keep staight, for more information contact us.
